hiroler:Is it true you can only short a stock that is on the easy to borrow list???
I've spent the last 3 hours of my life trying to short this one particular stock.
If I had an options account would I be able to?
I get the "there's not enough short inventory" message when I try to short it.
Thanks.
Well, when you short you are borrowing the stock from the broker (for Zecco this is actually Penson). If they don't have the shares in inventory, or cannot get the shares from a customer or another broker/lender, than no, you cannot short it (also true if the stock is not marginable or trades under $5.00). The easy to borrow list tells you what stocks you can borrow from Penson, thus short. So possibly the stock you are trying to short is not in Penson's inventory.
An options enabled account won't help (though you could buy a put). You would need a margin account.
