I'm looking to invest in green energy. Any ideas?

I like NGRN but it is a small cap company so it has a lot of risk involved.  In general I think wind energy is the strongest sector.

One thing you might want to look into is an ETF that follows the global solar energy index....

The symbol is TAN

I dont think solar is the way to go. It is not very efficient.

I feel that we're in a place with solar like we were with tech companies ten years ago. There are too many, they're small, and their doing pretty much the same thing. Some will survive, some will merge and some will go bankrupt. After trying a few solar companies and never making a good move I decided to get a clean energy ETF. I ended up buying PBD, there's also GEX and others. I feel like I have exposure to the alt energy sector, but I'm not relying on one company. For that matter, if Andy is right about solar, it's not just solar that I'm investing in. But if your belief is that green energy will do well as oil keeps going up, you'll be disappointed. Green energy is suffering like the rest of the market.

Yes. I am a Green investor myself, giving preference to companies that do the right thing. I looked at many and invested in some. 2/3 of my investments went south with the market. Short answer is ESLR. Look at them. rated strong buy by standard and poor, target of 16 in 12 months. They are still 9-10 dollars right this minute.

ESLR is a good one if you're up for active trading. It went up 11% today. I think it's time to take profits and wait until it falls back to $9 to buy back in. It fluctuates a lot. Goldovt2005 you got in cheap. Well done!

I am tending to prefer "biofuels"...

Not the ones which use "food" stock (ie. ethanol from corn), the ones that use biomass waste,

(or from algee).

I have some questions.

An index just measures a certain sector or industry right?

and an ETF is the same thing except it's a mutual fund that focuses on a certain industry/sector?

Is that correct?

Can you purchase an ETF just like stocks on zecco?

How do the fees work? I know mutual funds have A/B/C class shares for example...sometimes you have to hold for a year so you're not penalized a couple % points. (for C class shares for example)

I'm interested in diversifying some more and an ETF seems to be a good idea. Obviously, I don't want to get ate alive by fees though.

Currently I have a mutual fund CWGCX and it's been lagging lately.

What about ETN's?

Any recommendations for books/articles is appreciated. Thanks for the help in advance.
